Indian wedding fair goes global

Celebrating Vivaha, the biggest Indian wedding exhibition is expanding outside India. Coming editions of the big Indian wedding fair will be reaching Britain, Malaysia and Singapore.

The Barbican Exhibition Centre in London will host the wedding extravaganzain May 2008, aiming to catch the attention of Britons and Indian ex-pats alike.

The exhibition’s expansion is trying to cater for Indians living abroad (some of them go back to India to purchase their bridal wear) as well as non-Indians fascinated with Indian-style weddings. The Indian wedding market is currently growing at a rate of 25% per year.

The exposition is a showcase for the latest trends in the Indian wedding market, including bridal wear, jewellery, wedding planning services, honeymoons and a whole range of lifestyle products for the newlyweds.

The event had its first offshore opening in Dubai in 2006. Dubai’s fair was renamed as In Touch With Fashion and the second edition is scheduled for October 10-13 at the Al Bustan Hotel.

The organisers of Celebrating Vivaha are also hoping to take the event to the US, Indonesia, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh by 2009.

By 2009, the organizers also plan to move to other 20 Indian cities.
